Painfully, for you to enjoy

The end is near
Past year was fun
Well-fed with all good food
A goat can only dream of
The end has come
Chewing all the delicacies
Revelled in my master’s love
Never tried to find a reason
The end is now
Clear, everything has become
All the care and pampering
Was just to fatten and kill
This is the end
No amount of bleating
Will help; It’s time to die
Painfully, for you to enjoy.

Sometimes
Sometimes,
All we need is
A shoulder to lean on
But shoulders are sparse now
Sometimes,
All we need is
A smile to cheer us
But smiles are miles away
Sometimes,
All we need is
A word of comfort
But words are beyond reach
Sometimes,
All we need is
A little air to breathe
But air is full of airs

Labour chowk
Incessant chatter
Impatient gestures
Anxious glances
And a pall of gloom
What’s in store today?
Jobs for the lucky
Emptiness for others
One more day of despair
Such days are often now
They call it recession
For us, it’s depression
No escape from there
In this labour chowk*
Painful is this wait
Uncertainty is certain
And a pall of gloom
* A place where labourers (mostly construction workers) gather daily to get jobs. Contractors recruit people from these places on a daily basis.

True blue to green
Green was the colour
'Go Green' was the motto
Motto remained in papers
And everything turned blue
Sky is blue; So is the earth
Green meadows became blue
Grass is bluer on the other side
Have to look for bluer pastures
Had we been true blue
To the motto ‘Go Green’
Than shouting it on and on
Green would’ve stayed green

Walking away
Walking along the footpath
Careful to not step over
The filth and dirty puddle
I met her gaze
Seeing the pain in her eyes
That bores into my heart
And tugs at the touchy spots
I turn my head away
Rushing off to do some social work
Do I have time for her?
Hiding behind my responsibility
I quicken my pace
Thinking of my limitations
That compel me to close my eyes
That force me to ignore her pain
I push on to my destination

Will you follow us?
It came as if it’s meant for them, thecouple
A challenge for couples
Who can drive, write, and click
They grabbed it at once
So thought a thousand more couples!
Thecouple was confident in their profile
Their friends voted and offered support too
And they made it to the top hundred
When the jury edited out eighty-eight couples
Thecouple was not one among them
They came in the unedited twelve
And they are now pre-finalists
Now thecouple need cheers and support
Of friends and well-wishers
As they match their skills with the other eleven
To become the top three, and then the winner!
Do support us by becoming our follower for the Mitsubishi Cedia Great Driving Challenge. Check out our blog - http://www.greatdrivingchallenge.com/ee/index.php/nomines/blog/unny-bindhu/. Miss this moment
Rustling leaves
Murmur of impatience
Breeze left in haste
More leaves to rustle
Amber colour
No slowing down
Move fast and quick
More miles to cover
Push and shove
Jump the queue
Reach the temple first
More demands to make
Mad rush every day
Who gains and what?
Miss this moment, and
Crave for the future ones

How dare he!
Garbage rots
In my backyard
Who cares?
It’s my privilege
My neighbour’s backyard
Full of dry leaves
An ugly sight
How dare he!
I frown and curse
Dirty, lazy, and what not
Such a nuisance
Dry leaves in his backyard
I blog about him
To vent my anger
To make him unpopular
Still, my backyard stinks

Dreams
Lift me to the sky
Drop me without warning
Chase me like a mad dog
Haunt me like a ghost
Caress me like a mother
Elate me to rapture
Gift me mansions and money
Carry me to wonderlands
What’s life?
Without dreams
Meaningful or pointless
Colourful or tasteless
A dreamless life
Boring and bland
Welcome the dreams
Enjoy the grandeur and terror

Free and responsible
Freedom
To walk as you please
To talk as you like
To do as you wish
To live as you enjoy
Responsibility
To not obstruct as you walk
To not hurt as you talk
To not destroy as you do
To let live as you live
With freedom
Comes responsibility
No such thing as
Freedom without responsibility

Existence
A mild breeze is all it needs
To sway me
Spineless, you may call me
Helpless, I am
How I wish to stand straight
All the time, without stooping
I envy my brothers
Albeit creepers, they are
If I rebel, I am broke
It’s wise to dance
To the tunes of the times
Existence, only matters
Raise my head in dignity
Hold it out during storms
Be upright and righteous
I exist no more

Seasonal
Spring is here
Spring in her steps
Lovely flowers
Chirpy birds
Enjoy it, before
Summer takes over
And wither the greens
With scorching heat
Summer offers
Juicy melons, mangoes
Summer dreams
Full of rains
Monsoon madness
Wet soil
Budding saplings
Flooded roads
Winter, without chill
No shivering nights
No nippy mornings
Just a name, winter

All for me
Fear choked me hard
Darkness closed in all around
Gingerly, I stepped into the mud
Next step could be the end
Moving ahead was not an option
It was a compulsion
Struggling, I moved on
With least hope and vision
Did I see a movement?
A flicker of light?
My heart skipped a beat
But hope jumped a bit
He stood there with open arms
Warm smile on his lips
Naughty twinkle in his eyes
All for me to kiss.

Nostalgia
Longing to walk barefoot
To crunch the gravel under my feet
To feel the jab of twigs and thorns
And curse them for jabbing
Dreaming of the narrow pathways
Full of stones, dust and leaves
Filled with slush when it rains
And to swear when my skirt is soiled
Thinking of nibbling nameless fruits
Of licking tamarinds
Or munching mangoes with salt
And to curse when the teeth tickles
Looking down from my balcony
I see the endless traffic
Slogging people and dull buildings
And I crash land to reality

Seminar
I never listen to seminars!
I attend seminars, though
Collect the papers and stationery
Sit and doodle
Well, not exactly
I scribble furiously
Fellow audience looks at me
What’s there to take note?
I fool them
I never took notes
A pastime
To stop falling asleep
Two alphabets
Write all the words
Starting with the first one
Ending with the second
Seminar ends
Enjoy the free food
Go back
Report on an excellent seminar!

Here I am
I am a dumb onlooker
Or reader, should I say?
Sweet, serene words smiled at me
Sad, thoughtful words reflected pain
They laughed at me, for I was mute
Not a single word came for my rescue.
Pondering over the words
I realized they will not come to me
They are too proud
So I went after them
I smiled, begged, cajoled
And they came to me.
So here I am…
